Restructuring Public Administration- A New Look

Mohit Bhattacharya

Originally, the volume on ‘Restructuring of Public Administration’ was planned to cover administrative theories relating to ‘restructuring’ a well as some of the critical issues relating to the study of public administration in India. It is now being realized that the two disparate themes, viz. (a) administrative theory, and (b) the study of public administration in India need to be separately treated to do proper justice to each theme. With this objective in view, two separate volumes are now being planned and published. Accordingly, the present volume bearing the old title of “Restructuring of Public Administration: A New Look. This volume retains some of the old chapters; but its importance lies in the incorporation of new materials on such contemporary themes as ‘Changing Public Administration’, ‘New Public Management’, ‘the Governance Paradigm’, ‘Social Accountability’, and ‘Gender Concerns in Public Administration’. Besides these, a new section on Minnowbrook III has been added to the old chapter dealing with the landmark ‘Minnowbrook Conference’. With the addition of new materials, the present volume seeks to update earlier discussions on changing contours of administrative theory. A separate volume is being planned covering (a) the old material on the study of public administration in India’ and (b) new material on contemporary ‘governance’ issues in India.
